Learning Spanish Does Not Have to be Hard

If you’re only fluent in your native language, learning Spanish may seem like a formidable task. It’s likely that you were told to start with Spanish because it is supposed to be easy to learn. It’s easy to learn just about any language, you only need to figure out which learning tricks you’ll use. There are many tips and suggestions to make your learning a lot easier. Try using the following tricks:

Get a course on CD. Courses on CD are a great way for someone who is shy to learn how to speak a new language. CDs are convenient because you can hear the words pronounced and then spoken in a sentence. The learning material is as good as any classroom. But with a CD you won’t have to worry about making mistakes in front of the classroom. And it’s great because you can listen to your CD just about anywhere. You can download them to your favorite mp3 player, or simply use a portable CD player and learn while you are on the go! So there’s no single location where you must learn. Teach yourself to think in Spanish. You have to use an internal translation process, where you take your thoughts from one language and put them into the new one. Don’t expect to do this perfectly right away. In your everyday life, consider how various phrases that occur to you would sound in Spanish. This is something you have to practice regularly to get comfortable with it. The more you do it, the more quickly your mind will be able to convert words into the new language. At some point, you will become so accustomed to this that you won’t even have to make an effort; you’ll just find yourself thinking in Spanish. If you know how to think in Spanish you can work on saying those thoughts out loud–the key to truly interacting in Spanish.

If you practice, then you’ll achieve perfection. Be sure to always talk in your language as often as you can, and don’t be concerned about how it looks, or sounds. You can help remember words by using them in place of the words in your native language. So if your new language is Spanish, then just try to use “cena” instead of “dinner” and in place of “one” use “uno.” The words will feel like second nature to you, in time. You’ll be able to recognize the spoken words when you hear them. You’ll find that to be very helpful when you converse with people in the language you’re learning.

You don’t have to struggle to learn a new language. If you don’t yet have a second language, Spanish is a good one to start with, because it’s relatively easy. In today’s information age, you can find a variety of options to choose from for achieving this goal. Not everyone has to take the same approach; ask yourself what seems like the best choice. When you find the program or strategy that you feel comfortable with, learning will be much simpler. If your goal is to speak Spanish fluently, just keep at it and don’t be impatient, and you will gradually get there!
