Don’t get caught whiling away the time and being sluggish when you are in your construction job. There are eyes or Deputy Inspectors out there looking for cracks and holes in your work. Don’t you want to pass those tests during construction to keep your job? Building companies and people working for them – like you – should stick to the building code in order to gain the approval of the municipality.
A Special Inspector is a licensed individual working for Special Inspection service companies hired by contractors to check the handiwork of their team. They do not necessarily work for the city government but their job is to make sure that in the construction site, the building code is being followed. These Inspectors have undergone and passed all the necessary trainings and examinations which made them eligible to check on the following:
Reinforced Concrete/ Concrete Placement Inspection
Post- Tension Conrete / Cable Tensioning Inspection
Cable Verification Inspection
Structural Masonry
Structural Steel and welding
Fireproofing Application / Spray Applied Fire Proof
Shotcrete and Gunite Inspection
Drilled-in Anchors
Epoxy Injection Application, which includes crack injection
Shear wall nailing
During construction, the following things (mentioned above) are inspected and checked as often as possible. The reason behind the inspection is to make sure that the building’s parts and premises are stable and are within the limitations pointed out in the building code. It is very important that the standards in construction are followed by the construction company to gain the approval of the municipality. In case the construction fails one or two of the tests and requirements, they are given allowances to complete what is being asked of them.
The Special Inspector’s job is not to criticize or to double the work during construction. He is there to protect and uphold existing building laws in the locality. It is also the job of a Special Inspector to make sure that construction of a building is well done so in the future, when the building is ready for occupancy, accidents can be prevented and emergency situations can be dealt with immediately and effectively.
