Pest Control in Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire has seen a lively start (2010) which is somewhat surprising given the somewhat colder (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.

Pest and vermin operatives were kept occupied with the usual city centre rodent infestations all thoughout the winter of 2009/10, but the relatively cold late winter has already brought some ant problems reported.

The wet summers of the last few years were not to the taste of the hymenoptera (sawflies, wasps, ants & bees) but this year looks like it will be a busy year for flying ant problems.

Often ants build their nests under the floors of buildings and inside cavity walls causing a lot of foraging ants to visit food store areas.

However it is at their mating time when they are at their most annoying as they produce winged queens and males which then mate in flight.

The release of many thousands of these winged ants inside homes can be horrible in the extreme.

A relatively new pest was very prevalant in the Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area last year, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was not common for pest controllers in Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire to meet these pests until lately but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in recent times and already this season has seen reports of these insects in substantial numbers.

These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, known as woolly bears eat natural fibres and can do substantial damage to carpets and all fabrics. They can be a difficult and persistent pest to eradicate.

Those who are involved in pest control note that Bed Bugs are continuing their come back in the the North West area, regularly arriving as hitch-hikers in the suitcases of home-coming holiday makers.

Regularly the initial reaction of those unfortunates who realise that they are infested with these horrific,blood-sucking creatures is to burn the infested beds and buy new.

This is often an expensive mistake as despite their name bed bugs do not just live in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found everywhere within up to five metres of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical and telephone sockets and the new beds will be instantly re-infested.

Most people mistake bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both require a different type of pest control.

They dine solely on blood which they drink from their sleeping hosts. People often associate bed bugs with unhygienic living conditions but nothing could be further from the truth, they do not require dirt, their food is you!

Up to the end of April 2010 Lancashire & Manchester Pest Control are offering a 25% discount on their three year guaranteed ant treatment.

The revolutionary treatment which is guaranteed for three years, extendable indefinitely in further three year chunks by a low cost re-treatment every three years, can be carried out in most buildings subject to satisfactory free site survey
