Another natural attraction in Namibia is the Namib dessert and the boarding great escarpment. The Great Escarpment is a huge rock face that rises dramatically by 2KM really sharply. A beautiful site, especially when viewed by microlight.
Namibia is not the easiest place to explore on foot. The distances are huge and the land is big and un forgiving. Namibia, is a huge producer of Diamonds. With one part of the country being named after the gems, – the Diamond coast, Namibia, is a pretty big player when it comes to buying shiny gems to pop the question. Namibia did not always have it so easy however, as they really had to fight for independence (against the apheid government in South Africa.) Eventually gaining independence in 1990. (Shortly afterwards they discovered even ritcher diamond deposits and have been laughing ever since).
