The question in computer portability has become, “Does size and weight really matter or is it more important to have an all powerful computer that allows you to fit all your productivity software and save as many projects as will fit on your productivity machine?” Another point here may be whether the small sizes are more concerning or if the light-weight portability is the key issue. I think the accessibility of different types of laptops now lets us truly personalize our computers into something that works for us today and doesn’t have to be typical for all.
The release of the new macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and what kind of laptop computer we haul around with us to school. At less than 3 pounds and less than an inch thick, we don’t have to strain our shoulders every time we walk to work. It has a 13 inch flat panel and a normal keyboard. Tell me where I can get it today! This is the very attribute I have been seeking.
When I first observed the commercial for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to carry laptop computer coming out of that little brown envelope, I was simply in awe. Now, that’s what I’ve been hunting for. Now it doesn’t have to be a workout to take my portable computer with me anymore! No extra bag that can weigh likely as much as the laptop computer, no more heavy lifting, no longer taking up so much extra room! What a marvel!
The frequently asked question of whether size is relevant is here now and my answer, when it comes to a tiny portable notebook computer is a reverberating, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter and so does weight. For me and my computer smaller is as good as it gets.
