Children and adults are always fascinated by the great universal popularity of the Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter books were written by the English author J.K. Rowling. She was given birth to on 31 July 1965. Her full name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the pseudonym J.K. Rowling because in the beginning her publisher thought it was a beneficial idea not to reveal the point that she is a woman. The publishing house thought it could have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody instantaneously recognizes that the writer was a woman. Consequently, instead of using her first name she used two initials. As she has no middle name she picked Kathleen as basis for the K. in her short form. Kathleen is the name of her grandma.

The initial Harry Potter novel – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was released mid 1997 in the UK. Very interesting is the point that only one thousand units of the first novel were publicized at that time. The original title of the story was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the story was released to the United States market place on 1 September 1998, it was published as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

After that J.K. wrote several additional Harry Potter novels. Now the Harry Potter series is made of 7 stories. These are:

• Story 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
• Story 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
• Story 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
• Story 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
• Story 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
• Story 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
• Story 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter books have been translated into at least 55 languages and have been published in a lot of countries. Besides the big success in the United States and Britain, Harry Potter is also quite liked in the European Union. The Harry Potter stories (German book store: Harry Potter Buecher Kaufen) have been published in Germany under the following titles:

• Buch 2: Harry Potter und die Kammer des Schreckens
• Buch 3: Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban

I must admit that I did not have the time to read all the novels. But there are fans who know them all, which is quite remarkable and contributes to the tremendous success.
