When you find you come to the process of removing genital warts, there are many options for you to consider. Number one, and probably the easiest, is to in fact do nothing at all - quite often, genital warts disappear of their own accord. Nevertheless, you do not want to just be counting on this. As soon as you visit your physician, they will be able to explain to you which kinds of genital warts removal procedures are best for your situation.

Genital warts creams are available for those who do not have many or have fairly small warts. These include Imiquimod, a cream that is applied only to the affected area. Other solutions may be applied and then washed off or applied and not washed off, such as a solution made from .5% podofilox. However, some of these creams may not be an option for women who are pregnant since they can be absorbed and passed along to the unborn baby and cause birth defects. Likewise, some should not be used by women attempting to get pregnant.

A more serious option is cryosurgery, or freezing off the warts. However, cryosurgery is really only an option for small genital warts. Other options for small warts include burning them off through electrocaultery or using lasers to remove them. Surgery may also be the only way to remove larger genital warts if the warts do not respond to other forms of treatment.

Note that all of these genital warts removal options only remove the warts; they do not remove the cause of the warts, the human papillomavirus. However, new research shows that it may be possible to completely eradicate the virus from the body after infection.
